A coin “going up 50%” sounds exciting — until you learn its total market was tiny. Professional analysts never judge a crypto asset by price alone. They read four numbers together, and you can too.
1. Market capitalisation
Market cap = price × coins in circulation. It tells you the real size of a network. A coin at $1 with 100 billion coins (a $100 billion market cap) is “bigger” than a coin at $1,000 with only 10 million coins ($10 billion). For a small coin to double, far less new money is needed — which is why small caps move violently in both directions.
2. Trading volume
Volume is how much was traded in the last 24 hours. Rising price with rising volume suggests real demand; rising price on weak volume often fades. Volume also reveals liquidity — low-volume coins are hard to exit quickly.
3. Bitcoin dominance
This is Bitcoin’s share of the total crypto market. When dominance rises, money is playing safe inside crypto. When it falls, traders are rotating into riskier altcoins — often a late-cycle sign.
4. Sentiment
Fear and greed indexes, funding rates and social media hype measure emotion, not value. Extreme greed historically appears near tops, and extreme fear near bottoms — sentiment is a warning light, not a steering wheel.
Today’s snapshot
As a live example (25 October 2026, via CoinGecko): Bitcoin trades around $80,455 (down about 0.3% in 24 hours), Ethereum around $2,343 (down about 1.4%), BNB around $743 (up about 0.8%), Solana around $101 (down about 0.5%) and XRP around $1.30 (up about 0.7%). A flat, mixed day like this — small moves, no panic — usually means the market is waiting for a bigger catalyst.
Read the four numbers together before any decision, and remember: analysis reduces surprises, it never removes risk.
